I have been painting since childhood but it is only recently that I’ve turned a lifelong passion for art into a full time career as an artist. Classically trained in both fine art and graphic design, my preferred medium is acrylic on canvas although I also enjoy working with oils or pencil.
Originally from London, I have spent many years travelling and living abroad before finally settling down in Thirsk, North Yorkshire with my wife and two young children. I draw my inspiration from the scenes, landscapes and skies of the local area I live in and can often be found up on the North Yorkshire Moors or out in the villages sketching and photographing, always looking for the little details or big skies that make North Yorkshire such a wonderful place to live.
I explain the sources of my inspirations in some depth on the Gallery Pages, but to offer you a synopsis here I would say my artwork is driven by places and people. These are certainly not unique areas of inspiration but they are the ones which are most important to me. I sometimes paint other subject matters and am inspired by the world around me but at the moment it is almost as if I don’t have a choice but to create my artwork from these areas so intrinsically entwined with who I am.
I predominantly work with acrylic paint on a canvas support because I like the way acrylic dries fast which seems to suit my detailed style well. I also invest time into sketching and drawing as I find it the best way to keep my eye in and explore composition. All of my paintings start life as sketches on paper but I always keep them quick, loose and free from too much detail otherwise I seem to leave the energy in the sketch when I need to save it for the final painting.
Looking ahead I hope to keep improving and developing my artwork, discovering new inspirations and evolving my style and technique. Mostly I hope to share my art and spread a little enjoyment.
